the elusive gray console

I'm looking for a console to go under a flat screen in our den.
Boy, finding the right one is hard.

Isn't this one sexy?
I really like how sophisticated it looks.

I have such a split personality, though, because my last love was this one:

I know.
It really wouldn't hide much equipment.
But it's so darn cool...

Suggestions for great consoles appreciated!

what would I do with a few matisse drawings...?

acrobat, 1952

Patitcha souriante (Patitcha smiling) 1947

Vierge et enfant sur fond étoilé
(Virgin and child against a starry background),1950–51

three masks, 1951

Let's see.
Should they go here...?

...on a sophisticated white wall?

Or,

Here? In a cozy, dark den/dining area...?

Decisions, decisions.

painted chair legs

Amazing what details can do.
The nail heads on this chair are great...
but look at those painted legs.

Makes me want to try this.

So, how are your legs looking this weekend?

Have a good one...donna

thank you, thank you, thank you

My thanks to Emily Henderson of HGTV and Design Star fame for including
a perfect gray in her awesome and hilarious
Gal rules. And she knows her grays.

And a big thank you to two friends, one old and one new, for featuring my recent bergere chair project...

Monika, my lovely Swedish friend of

whose home looks like this:

Monika's living room
No, I'm not jealous a bit. No. Not Me.
(well, maybe just a tad....)

And my new friend, Connecticut interior designer, Donna Benedetto, who designs spaces like this:

Totally beautiful...
This girl knocks it outta the park.

And,

Thanks to Bridget Otto of The Oregonian/Oregon Live
for the nice little shout out about a perfect gray.

You folks are the best!

small kitchens with wood countertops

Trina's lovely kitchen from

I have wood countertops so I guess I am drawn to them.
I love the warm look they give to a kitchen.
I think wood countertops make small kitchens especially cozy.

Gray Timber Wolf by Benjamin Moore

Actor Corbin Bernsen and his wife Amanda, who decorated their California 1940's ranch home themselves, painted their floors Gray Timber Wolf by Benjamin Moore.

I'm loving the collected look of their place...and maybe they're my kindred spirits?
They not only use a lotta gray but they find most of their things at thrift and antique markets.

Yeah. I like those folks.

I saw this bar cart recently on Design Sponge.
It's just like the one in my living room....

I got mine at a near-by antique shop a year or so ago.
Been trying to style it just right ever since...

how do you support your decorating habit?

Chicago interior designer David Hopkins has put together a fabulous space for himself - mostly from found items, resale bargains and craigslist pieces. To support his buying habit,
he sublets his two one-bedroom apartments and sleeps in a large coat closet.

And we thought we had it bad...

Check out the article by Tate Gunnerson in The New York Times, and be sure to see
the slideshow of all the photos.

bedside tables

I crave bedside tables that are just a little different.
Well, ours ARE a little different. Jay and I have the same digital alarms/clocks, but they display different times. Mine is ten minutes faster than his. And there is no way to change the display time...

This morning, Jay scooted across the imaginary time line we've laughed about that runs down the middle of our bed. As he crossed over to my side he said, "I'm tired of living in the past."

We need new alarm clocks.

what in the world is that console made of?
I really can't tell, but I love it.

great blend of modern and antique.

always trying to get that just right, myself...
