an incidental collection

Several years ago, the hubs surprised me with this folk art box made from old cigar boxes. I had seen it in a shop at the coast but I am a notorious penny-pincher and I wouldn't buy it for myself. The hubs. He's good.

(Don't miss the details; click the photos to enlarge.)

The cigar boxes slide out and the handles are made from poker chips and Parcheesi game pieces. Awesome.

Earlier, I found this vintage plate. It's covered in cigar bands and in the center is a photo of a man and woman. Bet this gal made it for her sweetheart. I couldn't resist it.

And you might remember my cigar band bottles from e-bay.

I was never actually collecting cigar art but now it looks like I have an incidental collection.

Ho fun!! That is how our collections start. We buy what we like and before we know it there is a common thread and Voila!! A collection is born, that is the best way to do it, Fun piece, Kathysue

Penny pinchers unite! I have such a hard time parting with money when it goes directly to me. Without my husband, I would be without my beloved cloche. It was he who urged me to plunk the dollars down for the pleasure of something handmade and unique.

Aren't we lucky?!

What colorful and precious folk art treasures! And your hubby seems like a keeper too. I also love how you display the vintage wine bottles. Have not even thought of that! Thank you for the inspiration (once more). ox Mon

I adore your 'cigar art', what a vignette your collection makes. You know I hate to admit but I remember cigar boxes, when they were still in use. Damn I'm old....
Happy new week to you ~ deb

Love that Box, it's so colorful and funky. You've got a good man there. I'm a huge penny pincher too, I could have some really cool things if I would just go out on a limb sometimes.
