vintage stainless steel medical cabinets

Bear with me a minute folks - I'm gonna get all quirky on you. I've just discovered two vintage stainless steel medical cabinets set to go up for a local charity auction this weekend.
I HAVE TO HAVE THEM.
They look pretty much like the pieces in the first and second images. And they are in perfect condition. I'm thinking the second piece would make one heck of a cool bar...

People, how much do I pay for them...?

I am so excited thinking I might actually get them...

And speaking of quirky, I'd like to thank Artie Vanderpool  for my cool new blog header.   Oh, wait...it's my header that's quirky, not Artie. He totally 'got' me right away, is very reasonably priced,  and was so much fun to work with.  I'd totally recommend him if you are looking for something new. Thanks, Artie.

Donna the cabinets you show here are fantastic, and if anything like the ones at auction, you must have them!

I would have no idea what you would pay for these 'stateside', but one things for sure...

They are the perfect shade of grey!!
Good luck with procuring them!

Oh yes, it would make a fabulous bar cabinet! Or a fabulous curio cabinet, or handbag cabinet, need I convince you further?

These are so fantastic! Yes, you must have them...sounds like you will give them a good home. Since it's for a charity you can go higher and claim as a deduction on your taxes, but I would think $400 each if you can get away with that.
I hope you are the winner!
Yes, Artie did get you perfectly...nice.

Love your quirky new header and the quirky cabinets. Have you looked on eBay? I think they can be pretty pricey sometimes, but if no one else is interested you could get them for a song. My husband is a dentist and the old timer he bought his practice from had an old dental cabinet in his office (the only decent thing in that office) that I wish was ours. It resembles the two-door cabinet in your first photo. They're very unique! Good luck!

They're usually VERY expensive -- in the high hundreds, if not over a thousand (depending on the piece).

With that in mind, hope you snag a deal!

Absolutely positively L.O.V.E. the new header! Isn't Artie fun, and doesn't he have the best laugh in the world?!

The cabinets are fabulous! Just saw a steel table in Vermont yesterday, but it was already sold. Best of luck with your auction... let us know how it goes!

happy week to you!

I noticed your new header a few days ago and I love it. Very fresh. That Artie is very talented.

I've always been attracted to those cabinets. I would guess with the recent popularity in industrial that they could go for a pretty penny. I recently saw a metal chest at an antique store and it was $2400 but that was at the design center so the price was inflated. I would still guess over $1000 for the pair.

Love quirky! The cabinets look great -- I bought one years and years ago, but don't even remember what I paid. It was a towel cabinet in my condo, and then a glass wear cabinet in my dining room in my first home -- sadly, its in the garage now. Doesn't really fit anywhere in the new house, but I can't let it go! Hope that you get yours!

I love the metal cabinets! It reminds me of some great ones I saw years ago at UpCountry that I wish I had purchased. Hmm... I really don't know what you should pay - I guess it depends on your budget and how much you love them! Loving your header btw :)

What a find! You must have them and I saw a pic this week with one of these used as a shoe cabinet. Totally taken with that idea. Good luck! XO

These type of cabinets are usually pretty expensive-
but you never know. I love metal furniture (industrial) and lusted after steel barrister bookcases that are not common in Wisconsin where I live. I would look for them on eBay, but the prices were steep especially when adding shipping costs. After looking for a couple years there was an auction on eBay where the University of Missouri Surplus had a pair for sale. Not being dealers, Surplus's look to move items. I was able to get a matching pair for $735.00. I had to drive to Missouri to get them, it was a 16+ hour drive and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Many Universities have a surplus store, they can be a great resource for industrial and office decor. Good luck with the auction!

Loving your new header! And I love your idea of turning a cabinet into a bar great idea! Expect to pay upwards of a $1000 for really good cabinets like the ones you’re showing above. Good luck!

This one is simple.. How much can you afford? How much do you want them? Anything cherished around the house brings joy every time you look at it!

Hope you got them Donna!!! It's been my dream to have at least *one* metal cabinet (hopefully an old dental one with a glass door and curvy legs) let alone two! the ones I've seen have always been so spendy...really spendy...crazy spendy!!
Let us know how you did...and thank you so much for your wonderful comment...I found it...you're the best!

PS - Love the new look...it's the 'perfect' header!!

pay as much as you need to! (or can possibly afford)
one of my biggest (interior related) regrets is not bidding higher for a lamp at an auction...the price had gone higher then expected, so i let it go....but i still think about that lamp...

Love your cool new look!!! As far as what to pay...just go with your heart and pay what you can! Enjoy!!!

Donna....I have seen them at Scott's. If they are the single ones like in the 1st or last picture then $150-250. It just depends on the shape they are in. LOVE the new header....he really did GET you......

I love the new header, and your over all new look! It looks as though you have been cleaning for spring. You can occasionally get a deal on those types of cabinets...the problem is when you go up against someone that is bidding for charity...they may not be as excited about the piece as they are about the charity and bidding high because of that....take note of the winner if you do not get them...you can always approach them for a deal. I watched it happen once....the winner told the loser to write a check to the charity for the price that they were willing to pay, and the loser could then have the item! Everyone wins....especially the charity....GOOD LUCK...k

Very cool header and LOVE those medical cabinets. I once bought old heads from an English doctor's office showing skin diseases. They're great conversation pieces and so beautiful despite their illness!!

Martha Stewart sold one that was fab, back when she was selling goods online directly. (The quality of everything was exquisite so, alas, it probably proved too expensive for her niche market.) My mother bought one like the smaller cabinet, in white. I don't recall exactly what she paid for it, but I think you'd have to expect around $500 for the smaller and much higher for the large piece. Good luck, though. They're pieces you can use anywhere for anything. Classic.

Just go for it! How often does something like this come up after all! Good luck!

Okay Donna - saw one comment in the $150 range, but that is pretty low...especially if they are stripped and ready for service. These typically go for $900-$1200 in that condition, as little as $500 if they need elbow grease. Good luck - I have some in my shop for display only and it's the very thing I could sell over and again if only the inventory on these were plentiful.

I have a beautiful dental cabinet with cabriole legs that I bought on Craislist for the low, low price of $150!
That being said, perhaps you should check 1st Dibs to see what the items sell for and make a comparative offer?
You have excellent taste, my friend.
