thanks for comin' through for me...!

I can't thank you all enough for your thoughtful advice on changing up my more formal dining room. We use it every day, so I am yearning for a little more casual feel. You left so many good comments...some of your great advice included upholstered/slip covered or painted chairs, and mixing in modern art and fresh accessories. Monika from Splendid Willow even sent me this image which I love. While this dining room contains many traditional elements,  it has a very fresh feel.  And look! It has just the things you all recommended: slip covered chairs and a fresh grouping of artwork and accessories. See...you all are downright decor geniuses and should be charging a lot of coin for your advice...

What a pretty dining room! It would be so easy to create this out of stuff you already have too!

Go for it. We're working with a client right now that is in her late 30's and has inherited a lot of dark traditional furniture that is very nice but she wants to lighten things up and update. We've painted some of the chairs. are adding some slip covers and a bench. It's looking great. I don't know if my pictures are real good but I'll send you some. Mona

I am so curious to see what you actually end up doing with your dining room. Get started my friend!

The only thing I would do to that art wall is to replace 1 or 2 of those paintings with something more modern. That would look great!

Happy Easter to you and your family. You are a gem.

Love, Mon

Love that dining room and can't wait to see the changes you make. I'm in the process of making slipcovers for my dining room chairs for the summer, we'll see if they all get made for this year...lol.

The dining room came out fabulous! I just finished redoing my study, and I grouped all my homeless paintings that did not fit in the house (as i tend to collect modern art) but have emotional value to me...as in your dining room, I loved the result.

I like when you mix different periods or styles it adds something extra I think and I am sucker for slipcovered furniture. It's just about all I have.

Donna, I'm in love with this image too! Kudo's to Monika for finding and sending it to you - seems to be the perfect mix of formal and informal to me.

I recently, after what felt like years (though it was really was a few months) of searching, found the perfect round pedestal table for my dining room. Early 1920's Empire column pedestal on raised brass caster feet. It's gorgeous - but the top needs some refinishing! (Reflected in the $150 price).

I'm thinking of getting a few slip covered arm chairs from Ikea this weekend to park around it myself. This picture just about firms that up! Thanks for sharing! And good luck with your changes - I know they'll be fab.

Totally agree - even though it has traditional elements it feels modern due to the slipcovered chairs and the fun mix of art on the wall!

I think it's grand Donna that you use your dining room daily. So many of us use it as a shrine, & rarely used. I suspect anything you do, will look smashing! I hope you had a great Easter? xo

Oh please give us a sneak peak! I am dying to see what you end up doing! I saw a great dining room on Dear Genevieve. She was making a formal dining room more casual and mixed in all different chairs. It was so pretty! I'll try to find the images and send.
