the art of the mix

You guys totally came through with some awesome thoughts and suggestions yesterday in response to my piece on mixing styles. If you did not see this piece yesterday on Belgian Pearls, please take a look. Greet covered this idea so beautifully.   And as guest blogger on From the Right Bank, Susie from Eye Spy recently gave us an outstanding look at breaking rules and mixing styles.  Two great write-ups with loads of inspiration.

Several of you mentioned contemporary art as a key to the mix. I found these images I'd saved of some quirky, modern pieces that would really give a nice edge.

Now I'm on a mission...

Thank you so much for the shout out!! But, you're brilliant -- you've solved the entire mash-up issue. It's modern art that makes it all work together. Fabulous post!

You sure are finding some great inspiration pictures for the changes you want to make - I can't wait to see how you incorporate it into your home!

Thanks for the links, Susie's post was great! I like your choices of quirky modern pieces. Which room are you focusing your mission on?

My home is filled with antiques, but all my art is contemporary. My daughter has a gallery in NYC and advises me on everything. I even have a few pieces on loan from her, the sweet thing! It's a great look. And easy to live with too.

I love mixing modern art with old pieces. I personally think it makes for a very personal and interesting home.

I am waiting for your b/w stripey art work to be finalized! Have you started yet? I am sooooo curious how it turns out.

love it all! I have a beautiful, albeit very pastoral contemporary landscape above my sofa and I often think about taking it to my office and swapping it for something a little gutsier! but I'm a big chicken...

Yes, the secret is in the mix!

Love the tension and harmony it creates when two totally different styles meet. The unexpected and unthinkable is sometimes the ultimate!

P.s. How is your painting going?
