gray kitchen....walls

Now that my master bath re-do is a re-done, my kitchen is screaming for a little love. For months, I have been combing colors for that 'perfect gray' cabinet color. But lately....I'm seeing some wonderful gray on kitchen walls.

Makes me go, "Hmmmm."

What about you?
Do you tend to like gray better for kitchen walls? or cabinets?

I'm wrestling with a similar decision. The thing is, white cabinets are so perfectly forever that maybe gray walls are the way to go, allowing for change in the future?

I think grey cabinets would look fantastic, but the grey walls are wonderful too.

Those floors in that one pic, the wood ones, I would love to walk on barefoot, so beautiful!

I love the white cabinets with the grey walls and a touch of brass like that second image!

I like the last one that has the black cabinet.

One of my pet peeves is when you have a little strip of color like in the kitchen with the orange paisley shade. Those two tiny strips of bilateral gray are a deal breaker.

cabinets, hands down!

I love walls in a rich, storm-cloud gray, like the top picture, then white cabinets and trim look neat and precise, like collar and cuffs on a Quaker gray dress.

I have a gray island and the same gray in the back of the white glass cabinets (so you can see it). Love your photos though.

I think that if you have enough light in the kitchen, grey walls would work. However, in a dark room it may seem like a cave.

This is the combo I'm going to be putting into our new house - medium shade of grey on the walls, white cabinets, charcoal island base and white with grey marble counters. I get giddy thinking about it.

I have used benjamin moore gray owl and sea haze on clients cabinets. I love them both! I am about to do my own cabinets in gray owl. love the softness! My walls are now gray but soon to be something else...not sure what though! Maybe wallpaper! Keep me posted if try a gray on your cabinets! ...-Ann (birdsofafeatherdesign.com)

Hi my friend,

I will have to ask myself that same guestion when it is soon time for our kitchen re-do.

I think I am going to go safe and pick a very light gray on the cabinets and then white walls.

I would be afraid to pick a darker color and then all of a sudden feel "gray" in my own kitchen! Or perhaps I am just craving light right now when the days are getting shorter.

But I do know that whatever you do, we are all going to want to copy!

Hugs to you.

I agree that it depends on the light. I'm loving the gray walls & the marble countertops. Lovely.

I have custom mixed medium-gray walls (Ben Moore) - white cabinets - brass cabinet pulls and sink faucet - marble accessories (white, gray, and black). I cannot imagine using anything else. It just doesn't get any better than this! I have had this design for going on 6 years and visitors still remark on how timeless and elegant it looks. Combos of gray and white are just exquisite!

This is the dilemma - white cabinets gray walls - perfection right? NOT really.. I cook like a fiend, kids have dirty fingers, husbands coffee splatter, and i would spend half my week wiping those bad boys down, But gray cabinet and white walls, same impact and I could skip a week of cabinet cleaning...

I am a white cabinet girl....but love to paint the island a different color. When I had my cabinets redone 2 years ago I struggled with changing the color but its not cheap so I went safe.
