black and white art

My love affair with black and white is well documented; you might even say I'm very pinterested in it. Especially black and white art pieces.

I read decorating advice recently (now, where did I see that?) that we should try to have original pieces, those that we can afford, at least, or create art ourselves -  rather than buy repros or prints.

Do you create your own art?

I just found these big pieces on 1st Dibs by antique dealer Karina Gentinetta. The paintings are bold, fun and are unmistakable references to the work of Franz Kline. Gotta love that scribbled drop cloth, too.

I can just see one of these paintings above an antique french chest.

Does it make you want to re-create a masterpiece yourself?

For a few bucks, you could commission an art student at a local college/community college to paint something like this for you. It makes their day and gives them extra credit points. That's what I did and got three original abstract oils.

These are so graphic. One of my favorite all time paintings...my mom took a huge canvas...orange (1966) and put my baby brother in the garage with a can of white paint..he crawled all around the canvas and it was and still is one of the coolest "paintings" I've ever seen.

I took a mixed media class awhile back. It was fun to create some originals. I also love the art student idea. A friend of mine has an amazing art collection...and got many of the pieces from art student showings. Thanks for sharing your infatuation. :)
