mixing silverware

a favorite image from a country farmhouse

After many years of use, the knives from my everyday stainless silverware set are starting to wear. The handles are beginning to separate from the cutting blade.

I've looked around a little but haven't found a replacement pattern that I really love. Then it hit me to keep what I have and just add interesting (vintage) pieces as I come across them.

I am hoping to end up with a "set" that is as fun to use and beautiful to look at as some of these...

I have always favored mixed silverware...so much more interesting to use, to buy.

My mood dictates the ones I choose each day. It is like going to my closet to select what to wear.

I say go for it, I have been doing that since I was young. I have collected silver since I was 8
Always buying really interesting pieces and using them every day. I love the mixed shaped spoons and the different patterns.

Yea! My husband over the holidays said you don't have enough pieces that match. I shrugged my shoulders and said just go with it. Well I will be more picky of the additions going forward after seeing this post it really does look good with the right mixes.

You are going to hate me for this but years ago (12 or so) I bought 12 of each.....spoons, forks, knives.....all sterling in different patterns....for about 3.00 each at Scott's. was one of the best things I ever did. Use them everyday! They used to have long tables piled high to choose from:)
