the elusive gray console

I'm looking for a console to go under a flat screen in our den.
Boy, finding the right one is hard.

Isn't this one sexy?
I really like how sophisticated it looks.

I have such a split personality, though, because my last love was this one:

I know.
It really wouldn't hide much equipment.
But it's so darn cool...

Suggestions for great consoles appreciated!

Love your first choice Donna but you’re right it wouldn’t hide much. I’ve been looking for a console myself so we can get rid of a dated armoire. Good luck in your search.

Find an old one and paint it with one of Annie Sloan's grey colors or mix several to create your own grey. I am amazed at the ease of painting furniture with her products. Her color range is excellent.

Consoles with doors hide the equipment, but sometimes you need to leave the doors open for the electronics to breath. We have a dark screening material on our doors that semi hides the electronics, but gives proper air flow and allows the electronic eye to connect with the converter. {learned the hard way}

The first photo is warm and very chic...perfect for a media cabinet. The second one...you will spend your life trying to hide cords and all that messy stuff.

Both pieces are very pretty however :(

Oh, I so love the first one! A client of mine had a similar style to the bottom one though and made it work for components. Just get an Apple TV thing and you won't need anything else. :)

Oh, and I did a post on credenzas/consoles but it doesn't really give links to buy just inspiration:

Unless not having one is making you sick, OR you're just imagining or pretending that you want one, I think you mean elusive

I will be the last soldier saying "No, no no! we do not just hang the flatscreen and leave it there!

I will not die on the field; but I will register that it is simply careless decorating to leave that ugly black screen above fireplaces! YUCK!

Oh well! I will go down fighting!

I love that first one. I find so much on CL, and then it doesn't bother me to hack holes in the back of it for the cords.

You are so like me.....two totally different styles.....and that becomes such a problem. I love them both so much:). Mine is open like the second one. I had the TV hung on the wall so there are no cords. Then I put a basket filled with magazines to hide the plug and put the cable box on top of the magazines. If I wanted to hide the box I can put a little fern on it:)
