investment piece: a french pastry table

I saw one in an antique shop a while back.
The marble top was pitted and worn and it was just beautiful.
I have never forgotten about that piece.

There is always the one that gets away that you always regret! A few years ago I found a venetian party scene painted in the 1920s that was the most beautiful and charming painting you could imagine but just a tiny bit out of budget. I never forget it and will always regret going for it!

Beautiful Donna. An antique as you've shown can work in many rooms of a home!I have always loved seeing them.

So pretty...your comment about never forgetting the one you saw in the antique shop resonated with me. It's always the one of a kind things that I hesitate about that haunt me! I am still upset about a Swedish settee that I did not buy, and an antique French laundry table that I thought about for too long (well, it was kind of pricy) and someone else bought it.

I saw one of these in the Miller House by Saarinen. My in-laws are friends with the former head gardener. Mrs. Miller saw a pastry table on a trip to France and told her decorator Alexander Girard (!) that she had to have one. He said it would not fit in with the very modern scheme he and Saarinen were creating. Mrs. Miller dug her heels in and got her table. (It's rarely photographed because it looks so out of place.)

Don't come across these every day. I'd love one as a small worktable in my kitchen!

Its funny isn't it, sometimes you see something you love and it just won't leave your head until you finally buy it!!
I love the bedroom too - beautiful. French style furniture is so full of character and charm, with its wonderful ornate designs and textures. Fab pictures :O)

I have one. The top is totally aged and worn and I will never get rid of it. It is so heavy. It is a lot like the one in your third photo. And the other outside one too. I have been perusing my blog looking for a photo so you could see it. We bought it eons ago. The marble top on ours is a pinkish marble which would not have been my first choice but I do love it and I know they are not easy to find nowadays. Our is truly old old old.

You can sort of see it in the third photo of this post....
