I'm really trying to mix up my style. For so long, I was all antiques and vintage. I am working on it; but it's really a little harder than I thought - getting the right mix. Have you had some success? What worked for you...?

When it's done well, a mix is my favorite type of interior. And, you're right, it's hard to do!!
I am not a designer, so no help from my side. But I do know what I like when I see it. I love the picture above, and would have no qualms about living in such vibrant space.
How cool that you are trying to mix up your style a bit. It will be interesting to follow your progression and how it will affect your blog.
Personally, I don't much appreciate the bareness of the all beige and rustic 'Belgian Look', but it is fascinating to see how intrinsically distinct some of the design blogs are.

I'm struggling with this myself. So far, if I see something I like old or new, that i can afford I buy it. Then I just figure out how to make it work later. I don't totally recommend this but it's the only way I've figured out so far!

I love mixing antiques with modern stuff... Ive found things on ebay, redone them.. and they are the things that make the room pop!

Like you, I have failed to mix. Like you, I'm a gray/white/wheat girl. But with these posts, you are inspiring me every day to move outside my comfort zone. I'm seeing quite a few stripey, zig-zag, Madeline Weinrib-type rugs + fabulous pillows & garden stools injecting fabulous bits of color. I think those may next. Those, and my front door. Crazy.
Me too! I know! Right? Where does my original Eames rocking chair fall on the antiques/vintage spectrum? Ugh, I think I might be the antique in this equation!

And you're right, that can be a hard mix to get right. But when you do, it looks amazing!
If you have traditional taste, mix in Contemporary art and rugs. It really pops. Also a touch of Chinoiserie is very nice even a side table.

A really lovely room going on here!
I've been trying to pull in some more modern or mid-century pieces. I have a very traditional dining room with cool vintage and antique tables, chairs, etc. But my recent addition of a very modern, light fixture from CB2 made the whole thing look very euro.
I heard a tip awhile ago, nd it was this. Add 1 modern thing in a room and it completely changes the feel of it. A modern lamp, art or rug, etc. It worked for me.
i find throwing in a modern lamp works wonders with all that antique and vintage decor.
Ha ha I was just writing up a blog post about my need for a new laptop and wanted to mention MACs in my title that I had typed MAC DADDY, but then couldn't think of anything else to add so I deleted it.

I love mixing styles... I particularly love doing Hamptons style with a classic French twist. The Louis chairs used with big white or grey sofas and white timber coffee tables with glass tops. Fresh flowers in blue ginger jars and sailing artwork alongside botanicals. I love doing French navy with pale pink silk.... I could go on forever but I had better do some work! Have a lovely day!

A mix is defintely the best!! I think it takes a lot of constant moving things around and of course a good eye!
That's such a beautiful image you've chosen. I really love to mix it up. I have an antique chinese red sideboard mixed with a modern lucite coffee table topping a persian rug. I really love it.
I say buy what you love whatever and wherever you find it and the mix will be perfect. Trust your gut and have patience and things will evolve!!

Very cool room. I'll tell you what I do, because we have a lot of antiques and it can definitely go overboard that way and look old-fashioned. Artwork. I have collage walls of black framed, white matted photos (some honestly just printed on a high-quality laser printer, you can't tell). And some other graphic art I've done that is edgy. That, mixed with the oriental rugs and antiques, kind of does the trick down here!
Oh no.. I am hopelessly Taurean and totally stuck in my ways.. That means if any change is to take place I have to instigate it or I feel nervous.. :)
Well, that is at least part true. I am being a little hard on myself.. but I agree with you it is very difficult breaking an old pattern. Sometimes I am not even aware of my patterns..
