mirrored furniture...

Carrie Hayden, Designer

As a mirror-lover, I have been drawn to mirrored furniture and vanities for a while. But I've never taken the plunge. I think I'm afraid I'd get tired of a mirrored piece or that it would be a little too glam for me. But I don't know.....these sure are lovely.

Do you have a mirrored piece? What are  your thoughts?

I have a smallish mirrored chest in my foyer. I've had it 5 years and still love it!

Wow! That smokey looking piece from Decorpad is gorgeous! I love mirrored furniture too, but have also never pulled the trigger. It never seems to quite fit with the rest of the house.

I think mirrored furniture look so glamorous. I'm doing this to cabinet doors in my bathroom!

Naomi@DesignManifest said...

I really like it in a bathroom. such a nice contrast with white marble. I think you have license in a bathroom to go a little more whimsical or glam than you would in other rooms. It's your place to indulge yourself!

I would, however keep the lines and detailing pretty clean. LOVE that first image.

A House and Home said...

It's very glam...maybe too much for me. It kind of reminds me of something I will want to get rid of in a year or two. Heads up: Brandi (above) at Flights of Whimsy seems to have found a great gray. Check out her post today.

I love a mirrored piece--but I like it paired with some natural elements or more traditional pieces (to take down the glam a notch) How pretty are these images?

And people sure loved your doctor post, Donna!! you are the best...Julie

Dona, I love I mean I love mirrors and mirrored furniture. I have a small chest in my living room and it makes the room. I think one piece in a room can make it a stand-out room. As far as mirrors go. I have them everywhere in my home. I love the light they bring into a room, not so much for my reflection, hehe.
Thankyou so much for your sweet comment on my basket post today. I am so glad that you enjoyed it and what you said really made my day!!! Happy long weekend,Kathysue

I love mirrors, not to look at oneself but they brighten up the interiors in a most enchanting way. The reflections from the glass will magnify a room instinctively.

Have a nice weekend,

I too love mirrored furniture and own several pieces. They are so special and unique and add such glamour to a space. You found some gorgeous images to illustrate my point.
Have a great long weekend!

I love mirrored pieces but I know they're not me.
I saw a recent tutorial on making your own deliciously funky mirror, but I can't remember where - it would be an interesting thing to do, but I'd have to give it away!

I'd have to love my thighs a lot more before having mirrored cabinets in the bathroom. Or maybe the angle would make it work.... They do look lovely, though.

The dressing table in the cream room is gorgeous. Silver and cream, that's a new beautiful clean look to my eyes.

No, but like you have been tempted. I have a mirror that is eight feet tall with 16 pieces of different antique mirror that make up the entire mirror. I love it, Everything sort of pales to that for me. But I do get tempted.

They are stunning and so chic, but like you I just can't take the plunge. I am not one that has a lot of flash or bling in my wardrobe so I would probably not be happy with it in my home long term. I do appreciate the look though!!

I love the mirrored pieces but not sure if I want to see them in the bathroom. I love the pieces but they're definitely an individual taste item. I probably wouldn't go for them myself but those images make me want to think twice!

I have a mirror collection but no mirrored furniture.
I almost .. came this close .. to buying a 4 drawer chest , totally mirrored.. in Portland Oregon.

Now looking back, it would have been so perfect in our apartment here in Buenos Aires, but getting it here might have been too difficult.. I can just imagine how the shippers would have tossed around that mirrored piece of furniture !

I love these though, I should look for one here.

Love them, but I don't have any. I'm afraid I'd break it. My house is filled with mirrors, but they remained untouched except for cleaning. The furniture pieces make me nervous because you could put something down a little too hard and... BAM!!!! 7 Years!!!

lisaroy said...

I love them but my home is more beach cottage so I think it would be too glam for me too. They do add some pretty sparkle though. :)

I think it would be lovely. I just discovered that and you can cover your own piece by purchasing glass at a local glass shop (they have ALL of the smokey antique looking glass). FUN. --Gretchen O.

Sweet heavens, I love mirrored furniture! Always have. I don't own any, but it's on my wish list. The more worn-looking, the better, in my opinion.

Have a beautiful weekend!

You always share the greatest new inspirations in home design. We have a fantastic bedroom set which features the antiqued mirrors and is very upscale shabby chic.... it is a hit with our customers paired with pompom bedding, light colors, muted greys - and a pop of color in an accessory.
Keep up the great writing!

Donna! I have to tell you, we were at Pier 1 last night, and they have the most terrific mirrored furniture that is really quite reasonable, you totally need to check it out, all priced pretty much below $500, I was very impressed! XX!

I love these glam inclusions in a room that doesn't necessarily harmonise with that same style. I think a piece of this in your home would look awesome Donna as I know you would team it with something contrasting and interesting. I love the bathroom vanities the best - they will never date or look too glam because of the nature of the room. Just cool and unusual.

I too love mirrored pieces..but..don't own anything ... I am a cleanaphobic..and thing fingerprints etc would bug me.. always thought a little mirrored "something" would be good in my powder room or the dining room for bar service.. the images you selected inspire me to re-think that! and get something mirrored for my home!

Hello Donna, I did an impulse buy and went for a large mirrored vanity in our guest powder room, went completely over the top with marble and will send you a pic..this was a surprise even to myself since everything in our home is antique and French..but I LOVE this surprise element...it always gets exclamation-compliments, and now I wish I had somewhere else to add some mirrored pieces...
sent you a letter re crosses...

I'd be forever following the Man of the House around, with a bottle of Windex & Chux ready to wipe his paw prints off those stunning mirrored pieces Donna! His motto is 'Why use a handle or a knob when I can just shove my hand over the whole thing to open it!'

My thoughts about mirrored furniture are yours exactly. I love mirrors on the wall, but a large mirrored piece feels too glam for me. It would have to be more aged/less reflective for me to love it. Fun post.
