Hmm, that is a problem I would love to have. So beautiful either color!
Isn't that the truth! I have used Farrow & Ball's Pale Powder in 3 different rooms in 3 different ways and it always looks different! It even looks different from the swatch to the room view on their website!
exactly! which is why i went with Pigeon Gray from Dunn Edwards. it has a greenish cast but looks like putty on my walls.

I actually think that's one of the most wonderful things about gray - but I'm a big fan of blue.
Responsive, quiet and with an element of surprise - not really a problem...
Oh yes, lighting can make or break a room really! So important to test a wall paint or treatment of a major surface in daylight and artificial light before committing.

Isn't that crazy? I just spent six days painting my great room, entry and upper hallway. The ceilings are 21 feet high, yikes! It turned out great and I love the color. Like your photos it looks different as the light changes. Gray, green gray, brown gray. The good news, I love it in every light!

Ha! It is the eternal gray conundrum but that room looks amazing in any light!
Gray is such an interesting color, and yes we are all indefinitely in search of the "perfect gray." haha, but I actually think the blue that in changes to matches the blues on the headboard, which can be nice!
I know! Debra from Acquired Objects and I have been laughing (crying) about this recently!
I just posted a table I recently painted. It is Annie Sloan Graphite. It looks so perfect in my family room but in photos it looks blue-y! Gah!

My bedroom is painted gray, and I have this problem. The difference in my room isn't as pronounced, though. Maybe it's not exactly a problem because the room looks great in both lights.
That is so crazy and SO TRUE about Grays. My living room paint color is the same way in different times of the day due to LIGHTING.

You choose the most beautiful pictures! I adore your blog. You also raise a good point. Sometimes it's desirable that the color change in the shifting light of day and night. If not, there is a gray I like a lot, called "Sleigh Bells" from Benjamin Moore, that doesn't go violet, blue or green. It is a neutral medium gray that looks fantastic with glossy trim in Simply White.
we're having the exact problem with our living room paint... in some light my beloved blue/grey looks a little too purpley.
Holy Moly, so THAT'S why i've had such a hard time picking a gray!

Yes. I think we all know the change of the color gray depending on the light.
But this is why this color is so exiting! Definitely one of my favorite and main color...for ever...in fashion... interior...and even gray skies can be ´blue´...

Perplexing since the light reflection on the seat at the foot of the bed would indicate the photo was taken about the same time of day.
wow, big difference, but both gorgeous, lovin the golds and grays in first photo!
I had a bathroom which was painted a very pale grey, and the light, depending on time of day, totally shifted the color. It was fascinating!

My very reason for "grey" being one of my very favorite colors (not the muddy grey)
Blue, grey, lavenderish! All totally wonderful and soul-enhancing colors! You cannot go wrong!
The "purplish" is particularly intriguing!

It's funny how the feeling in the room changes a bit too! It goes from Belgian to French :)

I finally found the PERFECT GREY!!
I've been trying to find the perfect soft grey for over a year and had sample patches all over my walls. The problem was they all ended up looking too blue or purple. On the advice of a Benjamin Moore colour expert I reluctantly tried Benjamin Moore's COLLINGWOOD grey. I thought it was way too beige on the paint chip but it turned out to be the perfect soft grey on my walls! I still don't understand how it looks so different once it's on the walls but I love it!
