a little something different in the kitchen

When we re-did our kitchen about ten years ago, I wanted to do a little something different. Our home is a brick cape cod style built in the early forties. I wanted a warm, time-worn look in the kitchen so I went with cherry wood countertops and old wooden furniture pulls. I looked for a long time for pulls and finally bought on e-bay an old leather carpenters box full of vintage wooden knobs. They are all different, which is what I love, of course.

When guests ask where the kitchen trash can is, we say 'green knob. . .' It's the only painted knob.

My favorite is this carved knob, above, which I put on the drawer we use most often.

Just something a little different...

Great idea! Love the mix match - when things are not quite the same but belong somehow.

Hope you had a relaxing weekend and a great start to the week!

How creative! I adore that they are all different. Have the wood knobs held up well? Someone once told me they weren't as durable as metal knobs.

Naomi, so far so good, but I am one who likes a little wear. If they show age and rub, so much the better!

oh gasp! Those are gorgeous perfection! I never would have thought about mixing them up...so pretty. We recently painted our kitchen cabinets and I went with a honey stained wooden knob. So casual and just what I wanted. :)

Just something a whole lot wonderful. I love this idea and never thought of it before on a large expanse of cabinetry. Your kitchen looks beautiful. So well done, and I have to agree with Terri, I don't believe you. More please! :0)

What a great idea! I bet the hunt was so much fun. You don't often see such a great variety of vintage knobs in wood. I love the 20'to 40's era for decor. It is just a cozy , homey look and it just works for me. Great post! Kathysue
